Banzet receives prestigious Carraway Award
Jules Banzet III of Warrenton has been awarded a 2015 Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit for the restoration of the Peter Davis Tavern (circa 1783)
on Front Street in Warrenton.
The award was given by Preservation North Carolina (The Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina, Inc.)
during the Honor Awards Ceremony that was a part of PNC's Annual Conference held in Salisbury on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Meroney Theater. The awards
program was followed by a luncheon held in the historic Salisbury Depot.
Joining Banzet for the festivities were his wife, Harriet, son, Jule, and
daughter-in-law, Suzanne, of Winston-Salem, and Richard Hunter of Warrenton.
The Carraway Awards are presented each year to people and organizations
demonstrating genuine commitment through extraordinary leadership, research, philanthropy, promotion, and/or personal participation in historic
preservation. Banzet purchased the Peter Davis Tavern property from Warren County on Aug. 1, 2007, and immediately subjected it to Historic
Preservation Foundation covenants. The restoration process started immediately and lasted until the end of 2008.
Victor Coleman of Creek Construction, LLC,
Joey Mustian, electrician and plumber, and the late Stephen T. Alston, Jr., masonry, all of Warren County; and J.J. Matthews, painter, and Ranes Heating
and Cooling, both of Vance County, did the restoration work.
Today, the building serves as an annex to the law firm of Banzet, Thompson, & Styers, PLLC.
